Metropolitan Police Authority: September Meeting

The September meeting of the Metropolitan Police Authority will be held in The Chamber, City Hall, The Queen’s Walk, London SE1 2AA at 10.00 a.m. on Thursday 30 September 2010.

The meeting is open to members of the public and press, and everyone is welcome to attend. There is access for disabled people and induction loops are available. 

Kit Malthouse, chair of the MPA, will give an oral update on any key issues or events since the last Authority meeting. Commissioner Sir Paul Stephenson will present a report on policing performance and respond to questions from Authority members.

Amongst other items, members will discuss:

  • the appointment of a new independent member of the Authority
  • an update on the proposed new model of recruitment and training for police officers
  • Policing in the 21st century: reconnecting police and the people’ - MPA member response to the Home Office proposals
  • Local Government Finance Formula grant distribution consultation: proposed response by the MPS and the MPA
  • treasury management financial review 2009/10 (including 4th qtr update)

MPA committee meetings: Joint meeting of the Strategic and Operational Policing and Finance and Resources Committees, followed by the Finance and Resources Committee

A joint meeting of the Metropolitan Police Authority Strategic and Operational Policing Committee and Finance and Resources Committee will be held in Meeting Room 1, 10 Dean Farrar Street, London, SW1H 0NY at 2.00pm on Thursday 23 September 2010.

It will be followed immediately by the Finance and Resources Committee at 2.30pm.

At the joint meeting members of the Authority will discuss the Quarterly Management report, a quarterly update on the MPS’ operational performance, financial position and forecasted use of resources and management of risk for the first quarter of the financial year 2010/11.

At the Finance and Resources Committee, amongst other items members will discuss:

  • capital and revenue budget monitoring 2010/11 – period 4
  • Proceeds of Crime Act quarterly update, presenting the quarterly update report of the Payback Programme Board (PPB) for April 2010 to June 2010
  • sponsorship received in 2009/10-annual report, presenting information on the level of sponsorship income received by the MPS during the financial year 2009/10 as well as current stewardship and financial reporting arrangements
  • front counter facilities in Kingston
  • estate update
  • MPS ICT Strategy 2010-17, providing a high-level, long term view of how improvements to police procedures, enabled by information and technology, will support the present and future needs of the MPS

A meeting of the Metropolitan Police Authority Strategic and Operational Policing Committee will be held on Thursday 16 September in Meeting Room 1, 10 Dean Farrar Street, London, SW1H 0NY, at 2.00pm.

Amongst other items, members of the committee will discuss:

  • update on organisational learning arising from the Peter Woodhams investigation
  • update on dangerous dogs
  • MPA response to the Home Office consultation paper on police reform
  • MPA Safer Neighbourhoods Scrutiny: Terms of Reference
